Tarapex 2008


Tarapex 2008 will be on 7-9 November 2008 at TSB Stadium, Mason Drive, New Plymouth. This is adjacent to the Pukekura Raceway in New Plymouth. Highway 3 from the south goes past the Raceway shortly after one enters New Plymouth.

 

This exhibition, as well as being a New Zealand National Philatelic Exhibition, is for the first time in New Zealand incorporating the Australasian Challenge. This is a team competition between the exhibitors of each of the six Australian states. the ACT, and each of the North and South Islands of New Zealand. The North Island is the current holder of the Australiasian Challenge Trophy, being the first time across this side of the ditch.

 

Tarapex 2008 will have the best Australasian philatelic exhibits.

The TARAPEX committee is currently planning a philatelic exhibition to be held in 2008. It will be held in New Plymouth for increasing the public perception and knowledge of philately and bringing people to experience Taranaki. It is also a chance to let stamp collectors display their collection in a public forum and be judged by national and international judges. Exhibitors can also be awarded medals for their collection.

Exhibitors participate in the exhibition by sending exhibition organizers an entry form. To do so they are required to be members a Philatelic Society in Australasia. Exhibitors send their collections to the organizers by post or deliver in person upon acceptance of their entry form. The organizers will then display the collection to public.

Taranaki has hosted previous national philatelic exhibitions in 1969, 1986, and 1998. The link above has information on earlier Exhibitions. The exhibition of 2008 will be more than another annual New Zealand national philatelic exhibition. It will be the first time that a New Zealand city has hosted the Australasian Challenge, a two yearly philatelic event challenge. This and the fact that the North Island won the previous Challenge will mean material from many of the top Australian stamp collections will be on display in New Plymouth. We can't let the Challenge Trophy go back across the Tasman.
